Bumbleride Safety & Maintenance 101

How To Use Air Pump Video Link

All strollers need a little maintenance but parents are often surprised to hear this!

We know it can be tough remembering to take care of your stroller, however it's good to remember that a stroller is not much different than the bicycle or car in your garage; it needs cleaning, the tyre pressure needs to be checked regularly, and the wheels cleaned from time to time.

Here we provide a few quick and simple things you need to know about how to keep you Bumbleride pram in tip-top shape.

Bumbleride Front Wheel Lock

General Maintenance: Planning for longevity.

Quick inspection: A quick inspection of your stroller before each use is recommended. This includes tyre pressure, attachment points, and making sure the front wheel or quick release (older models) is tightened and clamped and that there isn't anything the way of the brake lever.

When to use wheel lock: If you are travelling faster than walking pace or tackling rough terrain, we recommend that the front wheel(s) should be locked (unless you own the Speed).

Stow clean and dry: Wipe off any water, dirt or sand after visits to the beach, lake, snow or river, or simply walks in the rain. Make sure to stow your Bumbleride dry to reduce the chance of mould or mildew.

Fixing a loose front wheel swivel: Looking to tighten your front wheel swivel? You can adjust the fork tension as shown below and in this video.

Fabric Maintenance: Keeping the cushion clean and soft.

Spot cleaning: We recommend spot cleaning any dirty areas using either a basic detergent or dish soap and water solution whenever possible.

Removable seat fabric: All Bumbleride strollers have removable seat fabric that can be machine-washed in cold water with a mild detergent. Make sure to always air or line dry fabric components.

Canopy fabric on 2015 or older models: The canopy fabric cannot be removed or machine washed on 2015 and older models, we recommend spot cleaning the canopy. Need help reattaching your seat fabric? Watch this video.

Wheel Maintenance: Smooth rolling for years to come.

Checking tyres: Air tyres provide the smoothest and most enjoyable ride which is why we only use air-filled tyres on all Bumbleride prams. You do however need to check the tyre pressure every one to two weeks and it only takes a couple of minutes to add more air. We promise you, it's worth it!

Tyre pressure: The wheels are essentially small bicycle tyres, similar to those on a child's bike. Each tyre needs to be properly inflated to 25-30 PSI before use. If the tyres are not inflated properly there is a greater likelihood that an inner tube could puncture or become misaligned.

Repairs: If the inner tube does become flat, most bike shops stock 12" or 16" inner tubes and will be able to fix your existing tube. You can also contact our Australian distributor, Danish by Design, for replacement inner tubes and other parts on 03 9588 0999.

Lubrication: Greasing the wheels properly.

Clean and lubricate: Regular cleaning and lubrication is important for wheels, axles and suspension of machines big and small (including strollers!) We recommend adding drops of a good quality bicycle lubricant near the hub and bearings of each wheel. You can also turn the stroller over and drop the lubricant into the back wheel axle where the suspension spring is housed.

Doing this on a regular basis will also prevent any squeaks around the wheels or suspension.

Safety: Wrist Strap & Infant Mode.

Wrist strap and brake: The wrist strap should always be used on hilly terrain or when moving faster than walking speed. And remember to always apply the parking brake when stopped!

Infant use: When using your Bumbleride with infants, a bassinet-style seat can be simply created by connecting the footrest area fabric.
